Texas conjoined twins separated in 'first-of-its-kind' 26-hour surgery

Conjoined twins Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith Mata were successfully separated in a surgery that took a marathon more than 24 hours conducted at Texas children’s hospital in Houston.
Doctors successfully separated the 10-month old girls born conjoined on February 17, 2015 with the help of a surgical team of 12 surgeons, six anesthesiologists and eight nurses.
Dr Darrell Cass, pediatric surgeon and co-director of Texas Children's Fetal Center was quoted as saying: “This surgery was not without its challenges with the girls sharing several organ systems”.
During the surgery, the doctors worked on Knatalye neatly for 23 hours and Adeline for 26.
Born in April 2014 to Elysse Mata, and her husband, John, the 1-year-old twins who were joined at the abdomen and has a common liver. They also shared major organs like diaphragm, pelvis, lungs intestines and lining of the heart.
The team worked for about 23 hours on Knatalye and 26 hours on Adeline with the official separation occurring approximately 18 hours into the surgery, the hospital said.
The twins are now in a stable condition and recovering in the intensive care unit of the hospital. However, no release date has been set yet by the hospital.
